CYAN Networks has released the CYAN Secure Web version 1.8. This release merges several enhancements that have been made for particular customers with the latest improvements from product development.

Microsoft ISA Server Support

You are operating Microsoft ISA Server at the gateway to the Internet? You would like to maintain the rules you have set up on your ISA server? You would like to introduce a new web filter solution or you would like to replace your existing web filter solution together with Microsoft ISA Server? Secure Web can easily be combined to operate together using the CYAN Secure Web ISA plug-in.

The ISA plug-in provides the ability to deploy Secure Web as the upstream or downstream proxy server to ISA server. The first proxy in the row (first relative to the client PC) will authenticate the user using NTLM. The plug-in takes care of forwarding the user information to the other proxy. Please refer to the details about the installation.

Native e-Directory Support

Already previous versions of Secure Web could be connected to e-Directory using LDAP. The native support for e-Directory enables Secure Web to transparently authenticate the users. In the case you are using the "e-Directory" type for an authentication instance, a user will no longer be requested to type in the login name and password in order to access the Internet, but will be automatically identified and verified by the proxy server.

Deep Archive Inspection

With this new feature Secure Web now supports filtering of data types in archives.

Already previous versions of Secure Web are analyzing the traffic and the files being downloaded for their actual content type, identifying ZIP archives, DOS/Windows executables, etc. based on the data, regardless of the extension in the filename. With Deep Archive Inspection (DAI) enabled Secure Web will now decompress archives that are downloaded, analyze all files included in the archive and grant or deny access to the archive depending on the access restrictions that apply to the user.

SSL Certificate Validation

Have you ever seen a user reading the warnings from the browser in the case a certificate warning or error is displayed? Secure Web supports SSL interception, which is used to break up encrypted connections in order to apply all security filters, including anti-virus scanning, also on this type of traffic. The latest version of Secure Web adds for you the power to control the security policy, enabling you to grant or deny to users or groups the access to sites with inaccurate certificates.

New End-User Message Templates

With this new version of Secure Web we have refined the HTML template which is used to render messages to the user. Secure Web now supports 4 kinds of templates - one for blocking pages, one for security information, one for warnings and one for errors.

Please note that you have to switch to the new pages manually after upgrading your system from a previous version!

POP3 and IMAP Proxy

CYAN Secure Web can now also be deployed as a gateway for accessing email accounts using the POP3 or IMAP protocols. The SSL variants (POP3S and IMAPS) can be intercepted, just like with HTTPS Interception, in order to apply the anti-virus scan engine also on encrypted connections.

New Web Administration Interface (Beta)

A few months ago we have started to re-implement our web administration interface from scratch. We are getting close to the release, however there is still some testing to be done and you should expect some changes to the behavior.

The beta version of the new interface is available with the latest version (1.8) of the Secure Web installation at https://yourproxyhost:9992/sweb2/

In order to install or upgrade CYAN Secure Web please follow the instructions for the Debian / Ubuntu Platform.

Version 1.8 for the Windows platform has not yet been released. Please check the Windows platform page frequently, we will publish the setup as soon as we have completed the final test cycles.
