CYAN Networks Software GmbH has released the new version 1.7 of the web gateway CYAN Secure Web. The proxy server for web and content security is available as a software solution as well as an appliance solution. Especially the appliance solution stands out for its ability to easily and quickly connect two or more machines to a high available and load balanced cluster system.

CYAN Secure Web supports an operation mode called SSL Intercept. In this mode encrypted connections (HTTPS) are broken up so that all filters, including virus scanning, can be applied inside the proxy server.

In non-intercepting mode, which is the standard for most proxy server solutions, the encrypted traffic that flows from the server to the client cannot be analyzed for security breaches. The interception allows to increase the security also on this kind of traffic.

Version 1.7 of CYAN Secure Web does not only support an easy certificate management via the web interface, but it also adds the ability to forward the intercepted traffic in clear text to an upstream proxy server where it will be re-encrypted before it travels through the Internet. This very special feature allows companies to also hook any available intrusion detection/prevention system (IDS/IPS) into the encrypted traffic to perform even more security checks.

Apart from the SSL intercept extensions and other product extensions, version 1.7 also adds the support to the proxy native FTP connections from the corporate network through the web gateway to the Internet.
